An exciting matchup between flyweight finishers is heading to the octagon.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a fight between Matt Schnell and Tyson Nam is in the works for the UFC’s event on Sept. 12, which is expected to take place in Las Vegas.
Schnell recently had a four-fight winning streak snapped in December by Alexandre Pantoja. In a wild slugfest, Pantoja earned a knockout victory in the opening round. Prior to his first loss since April 2017, “Danger” picked up decision wins over Marco Beltran and Naoki Inuoe, along with a pair of first-round submissions of Louis Smolka and Jordan Espinosa.
Nam picked up his first UFC win in devastating fashion last month. “The Naminal” earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus with a ferocious 32-second knockout over Zarrukh Adashev at UFC on ESPN 10. Nam competed all over the globe prior to getting his long awaited UFC opportunity, which included knockout wins over former flyweight title challenger Ali Bagautinov and former Bellator champ Eduardo Dantas.
